Wings Neck is a peninsula that juts out into Buzzards Bay not far from the Cape Cod canal. Fortunately
for us, Barry’s folks own a home there so we were able to get access to an otherwise private area. It
was the weekend that the tall ships were traveling through the Cape Cod canal for the big celebration
in Boston Harbor. We were hoping to get a good view of the ships passing by. The conditions were
good when we started at the northeast end of the neck. By the time we reached the lighthouse at the
end of the neck, the combination of wind, power boats, and ocean swells produced the roughest conditions
we faced all year. It was exhilarating to be thrown about by the waves and reaffirmed our respect for the power of the sea.
